How to Dress Like a Space Cowboy in 2026
Good news: you don't need a time machine or a functioning spacecraft to pull off the space cowboy look. You need five things, a tolerance for standing out, and at least one friend who will tell you the hat works. (The hat works.)
Here's the formula. Follow it loosely. Deviate with confidence.
The Five-Piece Outfit Formula
1. The Hat
Wide brim. Non-negotiable. This is the load-bearing element of the whole aesthetic โ it signals "frontier outlaw" before you open your mouth. Straw for warm months, felt for the rest. Beat it up a little. A perfectly clean hat says you bought it yesterday; a worn-in hat says you've ridden through at least one asteroid field. If you want to go full cosmic, check for bands or hatpins with celestial motifs โ a moon, a star, a discreet tiny planet.
2. The Tee
Your statement piece. This is where the "space" in space cowboy lives. A graphic tee with deep-space imagery, psychedelic western art, or some kind of icon that belongs in both a saloon and a warp drive bay. The print should be bold enough to be the whole conversation. Choose wisely. (May we humbly suggest our Space Cowboys collection, where James Webb Telescope photography meets classic Western iconography.)
3. The Jacket
Denim or canvas, ideally with a bit of history โ thrifted, washed out, maybe a patch or two. This is the layer that grounds the look in Western authenticity. Alternatively: a beat-up leather jacket if you're going for more "Han Solo crash-landed in Tombstone" than "range hand." Avoid anything too sleek or fitted. You want worn-in, not fashionable.
4. The Boots
Cowboy boots, full stop. If you don't own a pair, this is the hill to die on. Everything else in the outfit is flexible. The boots are not. They can be classic leather, they can be exotic, they can be whatever โ but they need to be boots with a heel and a pointed toe. Your feet should look like they know their way around a stirrup. Pro tip: thrift stores are full of excellent vintage boots that cost $20 and will last another thirty years.
5. The Accessory
Pick one and commit. Options include: a turquoise-and-silver belt buckle (the bigger the better), a bolo tie (yes, in 2026, absolutely), a bandana worn around the neck, or a leather cuff. The accessory is the wink โ it tells people you know exactly what you're doing. Don't layer accessories unless you're extremely confident. One statement accessory says "style." Five says "I'm going through something."
The Color Palette
Two zones, used together:
Dusty earth tones: Sun-bleached tan, warm terracotta, sage green, sand, khaki. These are your base โ the worn, weathered, frontier colors that read as Western immediately. They're also incredibly versatile and work with basically everything.
Nebula brights: Deep violet, electric teal, burnt orange, hot pink, cobalt. One of these, maximum two, as an accent. These are the space half of the equation. They shouldn't overwhelm โ they should appear like a star through cloud cover. Sudden and real.
Where to Shop
Thrift stores: For the jacket, boots, hat, and accessories. Seriously. The lived-in quality of thrift finds is irreplaceable and deliberate. The aesthetic is built on wear, not pristine new pieces. Spend time here.
Us: For the graphic tee, obviously. Our Space Cowboys collection was designed specifically for this intersection โ iconic Western imagery against deep-space backgrounds, printed on premium tees that hold up through the wormhole and back.
Put it together, step outside, and ride.
